SUMMARY:Responding to Sexual Harm with Restorative Justice: A Primer for OVW-Funded Attorneys
DESCRIPTION:Increasingly, sexual assault survivors seek remedies outside of the criminal and civil justice systems. Many are interested in exploring restorative approaches to address their safety needs following an assault. OVW-funded attorneys are faced with more questions than answers about how to proceed. What role should an attorney have in a restorative process? Will a client’s privacy be protected through the process? What happens if the restorative process does not reach a resolution? What are the goals or potential outcomes of a restorative process? Amanda Walsh, Deputy Director of Victim Rights Law Center, will moderate a discussion with Rachel King, a restorative justice practitioner who has decades of experience working with people who have experienced sexual harm.
