Responding to Sexual Harm with Restorative Justice: A Primer for OVW-Funded Attorneys

Increasingly, sexual assault survivors seek remedies outside of the criminal and civil justice systems. Many are interested in exploring restorative approaches to address their safety needs following an assault. OVW-funded attorneys are faced with more questions than answers about how to proceed. What role should an attorney have in a restorative process? Will a client’s privacy be protected through the process? What happens if the restorative process does not reach a resolution? What are the goals or potential outcomes of a restorative process? Amanda Walsh, Deputy Director of Victim Rights Law Center, will moderate a discussion with Rachel King, a restorative justice practitioner who has decades of experience working with people who have experienced sexual harm. Rachel will share foundational information about restorative approaches to resolving harm followed by a Q&A discussion that will address some of the most common questions attorneys are asking when considering this option.

Note: This webinar is for attorneys at organizations and agencies that receive — or are eligible to receive — funding through the Office on Violence Against Women.
