VRLC Statement Against LGBTQ+ Violence

We are heartbroken and mourn the senseless violence targeting the LGBTQ+ community at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado. LGBTQ+ clubs serve as a place of refuge for the LGBTQ+ community. As a Club Q patron was quoted by the media as saying, it was a place they loved and “a place of peace.” Club Q was poised to host an event honoring the Transgender Day of Remembrance, and instead they are navigating the aftermath of another act of hate-fueled violence against their community.

We grieve with the victims, their loved ones, and the wider LGBTQ+ community. We condemn all anti-LGBTQ+ violence, harassment, and discrimination. We must actively fight against acts of bigotry in an effort to end all violence.

At Victim Rights Law Center, we see firsthand the violence perpetrated against the LGBTQ+ community every day. LGBTQ+ individuals experience sexual violence four times more often than those who do not identify as LGBTQ+. Victim Rights Law Center provides free legal assistance for rape and sexual assault survivors of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Together, we must affirm, uplift and support LGBTQ+ individuals. Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
