Victim Rights Law Center (VRLC) is a nonprofit law center that provides free legal representation to victims of rape and sexual assault throughout Massachusetts and in Oregon and national training and support for lawyers and advocates on the civil legal needs of rape and sexual assault victims. VRLC’s mission is to provide legal representation to survivors of sexual violence to help rebuild their lives; and to promote a national movement committed to seeking justice for every rape and sexual assault victim.

Description:

The Managing Attorney will lead VRLC’s Oregon direct services team which provides direct representation to victims of rape and sexual assault in Oregon with a focus on Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties. The Managing Attorney will have their own caseload and supervise a team of attorneys and support staff working on issues of privacy, safety, criminal justice, education, immigration, housing, and employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, vision, and supervision for the four direct legal services team in Oregon with one additional attorney (to be hired)
  • Determine and implement strategy for direct legal representation work including: developing products, case priorities, and community partnerships
  • Provide mentorship on case specific questions for attorneys, intake specialists and paralegals working with sexual assault survivors on issues such as safety, privacy, education, employment, immigration, housing, financial, and/or criminal justice advocacy matters
  • Create opportunities for skill-building and training to promote staff growth, team cohesion, and individual professional development
  • Develop and oversee vision for effective outreach efforts and promote access to VRLC services, especially among underserved communities
  • Lead state and federal grant administration and oversight including: collecting data, reporting, and ensuring grant deliverables are met
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders and partners both nationally and across Oregon
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years legal experience; 3 years as a practicing attorney
  • Current member in good standing or eligible to waive into the Oregon State Bar
  • Courtroom and Litigation experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising attorneys
  • Commitment to providing trauma-informed, survivor-centered services
  • Experience and/or demonstrated commitment to working with trauma survivors and/or marginalized communities (e.g. LGBTQIA2S+, communities of color, people with disabilities, youth)
  • Desire to help VRLC build a culturally diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Satisfactory background check after receiving conditional offer of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and comfortable driving throughout Oregon

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing federal or state grants
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese

Salary Range: A salary within the range of $70,000-$82,000 (+ possible language use stipend) will be provided to the successful candidate. The salary within this range will be determined by the years of relevant experience they bring and with consideration given to VRLC’s internal compensation matrix.
